Where to rock climb in Bukhansan National Park – Seoul, Korea

I have compiled some of the info I have collected on climbing in Seoul. Most of the info is collected from blogs written in Korean (Hangul) and there is a lot of info but not so much in English. Most of the guide books are out of publication and also only available in Hangul. The climbing is awesome in Bukhansan, Seoul and the Korean climbing community is super hospitable and helpful. The National Park of Bukhansan is huge and the fantastic granite rocks are everywhere.

Also inside the park are many Buddhist temples and one Confucianist. (The message is Buddhism and Confucianism playing an influential role in Koreans lives. Just because the locals are also climbers they are not the same as a climber from England, Spain or Canada. They have a different mindset, family values, history, beliefs system, style, manner and societal norms. Embrace the differences, slow down and enjoy the experience.)

Ui dong family camping

To book this camp site go to  https://tickets.interpark.com/goods/21000833

The massive tents are awesome but a normal tent platform is enough. The showers are nice and hot! The camp is located 2 minutes walk from the UI park ranger station.

OBONG

5 summits traverse is a classic adventure day with stunning scenery. The approach hike is a slow 2 hours up to the ridge. Then scramble around rap and climb. There are lots of lines and various rappels but it can be busy on weekends but no one is there on week days!

INSUBONG – SOUTH FACE

Lots of crack (finger, hand, fist), dike features, flakes, offwidth, corners and slab multipitch routes up to 12 pitches. Approach 60 minutes.

INSUBONG – WEST FACE

Nice multipitch routes from three to six pitches. Approach time 70 minutes.

BAEGEUNDAE

Approach about 70 minutes. About 30 routes mainly single pitch to three pitch slabs on the east. On the west (hidden side) a few ten pitch routes.

East

West

I never climbed here but it looks great. I did find some info and am putting on the blog for a future trip.

HIDDEN ROCK AND ELEPHANT CRACK

A good variety of crack lines and about 80 minutes of approach. The added bonus is that there are many other climbers around.

SEONINBONG

The routes are three to eight pitches long. Many of the first pitches are stellar cracks and dike extrusions for a cragging day. The approach is a casually 70 minute hike on a good trail and the wall is not as busy as Insubong.

UIAM ROCK

Single pitch cragging about ten routes. About 40 minutes approach and not many other climbers.

NOJEOKOBONG

Slab climbing with four pitch lines and an approach time of 80 minutes.

SURIBONG

I do not know where this is but put it in for future reference.
